This is a rare French kouglof cake mold and marked La Guillotiere. This is a rare and interesting piece from the mid 1800s. La Guillotiere was a distinct commune before it was absorbed by Lyon in 1852. 

Kouglof is an Alsatian brioche that can be eaten sweet or savory.  These molds, often made of terracotta like this particular one, are a signature part of the recipe's history, used to give the cake its characteristic wreath shape.

This particular mold is rare in that it has a beautiful glaze design, as most are left unglazed on the outer area of the mold. 8" diameter x 2.75" h
